Want to buy red wine? Compiling a red wine list for dinner? Looking for Soft and Juicy?  These two words are what is on the mind of everybody that orders or drinks red wine, being it in a Restaurant or at home. Inspector Grape tastes 3 wines to see just how juicy they are!

Gamay, Vin de Pays, Southern France, 2007

Gamay is notorious for being the grape that dominates the red wine list when it comes to  softer lighter red wines.   This is truly soft, juicy and almost strawberry-like.

The colour is light red to ruby in the middle, the nose elegant and dripping with ripe raspberry, the palate delicious and soft, slightly smokey but velvety and juicy.

When putting together your red wine list for dinner,  don’t have this with a big steak, this is chicken wine!

2007 Macon Rouge, Burgundy, Marks & Spencers £7.69

Now this was interesting because it is more smokey than the straight Gamay.

There is a little Pinot Noir in this wine but the bulk of it is Gamay. Delicious and soft and yes it is juicy. There is very little tannin in this wine so don’t expect a heavy wine, but why would you, the topic is “Soft & Juicy”.

This is a perfect Christmas Turkey wine, and the best part about it is: it’s not expensive!

Vina Mara Rioja, Spain, 2004

2004 Vina Mara Rioja, Spain, Tesco £5.71

This is a delicious wine. A typical characteristic of Rioja is: “Smokey leathery farmyard”! Yes I know, when last were you smelling smokey leather on a farm, but stick with me and it will all make sense.

This wine is made from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano! These 3 grapes simply just love each other and bring the best out in each other.

Inspector Grape loves it because it is soft, juicy and smokey, perfectly balanced and in harmony. When I buy red wine for  roast lamb or chicken this is top of my red wine list.
